Roanoke shopping is on the upswing! Especially for those appreciating the quality of life in our region and loving outdoor recreation!
Walkabout Outfitter based in Lexington, VA has expanded to the Historic Roanoke City Farmer's Market. Located at 307 Market Street, this retailer has everything one needs to enjoy a day, week or year of hiking in our great outdoors. Apparel includes top names such as The North Face, Mountain Hardwear, Columbia and Royal Robbins. Great footwear is available too! You'll find a variety of Crocs (even for UVA & VT lovers), Tevas, Merrells and Chacos. And don't miss the fine selection of itch-free wool socks, sleeping bags and tents!
Walkabout Outfitter is open Monday - Saturday from 10 am - 5 pm and on Sunday from 11:30 am - 3:30 pm. The phone number is 540.777.2727 and the manager, Janet, is delightful.
In addition to Walkabout Outfitter, the announcement of Sportsman's Warehouse based out of Midvale, Utah opening a Roanoke store came as exciting news for hunters and fishermen in the region. The new 48,000 square-foot retail store will be built in the Valley View area on Ferncliff Avenue near Home Depot. Plans are for the store to open in November.
Word is that two other outdoor stores plan to open in Roanoke County. Gander Mountain and Camping World have been actively seeking appropriate locations in Roanoke.
Looks as if you are shopping in the area and you're the outdoor lover, you're set! Happy Roanoke shopping!
I just did a piece on Walk About Outfitters in my blog yesterday! They're super nice in there, and incidentally the same person owns Ladles and Linens which is right beside their new downtown Roanoke spot.
